Joe Dean Johnson Scholarship
ABOUT OUR MINISTRY
The Joe Dean Johnson Scholarship Fund is named in honor of the former Pastor of Riceville Mount Olive Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The highly esteemed and respected Rev. Joe Dean Johnson served as Pastor for forty-two (42) years. Along with his Christian beliefs, he believed that our young people should pursue higher education. He emphasized the importance of maintaining high moral standards, Christian principles, and ethical relationships with others. His favorite Scripture was Isaiah 40:31.
The objective of the Scholarship Fund is to provide financial assistance to high school graduates entering college or a qualifying institution for educational expenses such as tuition, books, and other approved fees. The Joe Dean Johnson Scholarship Committee believes in rewarding Riceville’s graduating seniors for their academic, service, and leadership excellence.
Scholarships are granted to qualified achievers who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the standards set by the Committee. All scholarships are funded by church donations, individual contributions, and group fundraising activities. The number and amount of scholarships awarded each year depend on the funds available to the Committee at the end of the school year.
Scholarships are awarded to high school graduates only after they have been accepted by a certified school and are presented in August each year. Recipients must be active members of Riceville for a minimum of one year. Evaluations are based on multiple factors including academic honors, GPA, community service, church involvement, leadership experience, and a written essay.
