Dr. Calvin Jerome McFadden, Sr.

Dr. Calvin Jerome McFadden, Sr. is a native of Tampa, Florida. He is an honors graduate of Bethune-Cookman College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Upon graduation, he attended the Interdenominational Theological Center, Gammon Seminary, in Atlanta, Georgia and earned a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Sociology of Religion. Additionally, Dr. McFadden graduated from Florida State University’s College of Human Sciences and was conferred the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Family and Child Sciences.

Dr. McFadden was called the ministry at the tender age of 15 and began his pastoral ministry at the age of 18 as pastor of the St. Joseph United Methodist Church in Deland, FL. He has served churches in Palatka, Florida, Tallahassee, Florida and Warner Robins, GA. For 10 years, Dr. McFadden served as Senior Pastor of the historic St. John’s Congregational Church in Springfield, MA. Dr. McFadden led the church in the completion of a $5 million ministry complex which includes a worship center, fellowship hall, classrooms and offices, the first new facility for the church in 100 years.

In February 2020, Dr. McFadden began serving as Senior Pastor of Riceville Mount Olive Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Riceville Mount Olive is a thriving congregation in the heart of Houston. Since his arrival, Dr. McFadden launched a theme of 2020 & Beyond: The year of Connection and Celebration!

Dr. McFadden has also enjoyed a fruitful career in education. He has served on the faculty and in administrative roles at Florida A & M University, Florida State University, American International College, Springfield College, Bristol Community College, Smith College and Norwalk Community College. Most recently, he worked as Executive Director/Superintendent of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Charter School of Excellence. In this role, Dr. McFadden managed over 70 employees who educated and shaped the young minds of over 370 students in grades K-5.

Having a commitment to community service, Dr. McFadden is a past board member of the United Way of the Pioneer Valley, a Rotarian, a 25-year member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and an active member of the Sigma Pi Phi Boule. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Gammon Theological Seminary and on the Board of Visitors of Bethune-Cookman University. In 2013, after only three years in Springfield, MA, Dr. McFadden was elected in a historic election to a citywide seat on the Springfield School Committee for a four-year term. He represented 26,000 students and their parents in the Springfield Public Schools.

Dr. McFadden has been married for 23 years to the love of his life, Jamina, an alumna of Bethune-Cookman University and the University of Florida. Together they are the proud parents of Catherine Yolanda, twelve, and Calvin Jerome, II, eleven.
